The Role
The Audio-visual Technician role works as part of an Audio-visual (AV) Services Team that manages the specification, development, maintenance and upgrade of Gallery AV displays and systems. The work involves performing the detailed technical analysis and installation services required to affect a continuing program of improvement and renewal for AV installations in the Memorials galleries. Designing and implementing maintenance procedures and helping develop long term budgets and technical strategies to ensure a continuing high level of visitor satisfaction and low levels of display failure over the life of exhibitions is a key aspect of the role. This position will work within a roster with two other team members that covers weekends and public holidays. After hours work and occasional domestic travel is also required.
Core Responsibilities
* Under general direction oversee day-to-day maintenance of gallery AV installations including:
o Performing routine work on lighting, media delivery and control systems.
o Determining work plans and safe work method statements for undertaking maintenance work.
o Facilitate video post-production using a digital edit suite.
* Provide technical and operational support to the Memorial’s Touring Exhibitions program and Theatre and Function Space2. Under general direction from the Audio-visual and Exhibitions Gallery managers:
o Devise custom solutions for gallery installations (e.g. media playback, equipment config, installation and programming).
o Provide technical analysis for long term estimates of asset replacement liabilities.
o Plan and undertake after hours maintenance priorities.
o Ensure compliance with WHS and public safety requirements.
* Manage technical processes for AV installation by third parties, including:
o Technical specification.
o Sourcing hardware and software components.
o Documentation of legacy systems.
o Ongoing documentation of system changes.
o Production and maintenance of whole-of-system operating manuals.
o Developing technical documents and manuals in collaboration with other AV team members.
* Liaise with Memorial staff, external consultants and contractors to maintain the quality of AV installations in the galleries.
* Configure and operate gallery AV installations on demand for special visitors and events.
* Move objects and equipment as needed, and work safely at height, including the use of elevated work platforms.
Additional Requirements:
* Appropriate technical qualifications or relevant experience are highly desirable for this job.
Position Eligibility
* Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
