The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Industry Officer - Catering, to provide a critical role within Hopkins Correctional Centre.
About The Business Unit
Hopkins Correctional Centre is a medium security male prison facility focused on preparing prisoners for their transition back into the community.
About The Role
As an Industry Officer, you will be responsible for supervising a team of prisoners that work within the prison kitchen and laundry. The prison kitchen provides a comprehensive food service for up to 798 prisoners.
In a vocational training environment, the Industry Officer will coach, mentor, and motivate prisoners to safely work in a kitchen delivering a food service, placing emphasis upon individual offender management with a view to rehabilitation.
A Pre-Employment Health Assessment will be required for external candidates and non-custodial staff.
Some Of Your Duties Will Include
Supervises a team to ensure the operational aims of the industries are achieved. These include commercial production targets and customer expectations, ordering and maintaining control of stock, materials, financial records and providing an industry model-workplace training environment.
Effectively manage all work areas to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors. This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and prisoners for compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety, and security procedures.
Deliver performance management targets and undertake professional development as required to enhance the role as part of a staff team, with emphasis on following industry requirements for OH&S, quality assurance, monitoring, recording and record keeping systems of prison industry functional areas and recommend improvements where necessary.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Experience in an institutional catering setting.
Completion of (or willing to undertake) Prison Pre-Service Training
Qualifications
An appropriate trade qualification and/or experience in food services.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable)
