Your new role
As the
Senior Technical Writer,
you'll lead the creation of critical documentation for a diverse range of emergency service vehicles. From writing an operations manual for a flagship tanker to developing inventory standards and recommended practices, your work will directly impact safety and operational readiness.
Day-to-day, you'll:
* Translate complex engineering and compliance requirements into clear, user-friendly documents.
* Collaborate with fleet engineers, operational crews, and procurement teams to validate content.
* Use tools like MS Visio to incorporate visuals and diagrams.
* Research international standards to ensure safety and compliance.
* Potentially visit body builder companies and inspect vehicles firsthand – yes, you might even climb on them
* Manage version control and publishing through systems like TRIM and SharePoint.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role where your writing will shape how emergency vehicles are operated and maintained across the state.
What you'll need to succeed
* Proven experience as a technical writer, ideally in fleet, emergency services, or high-safety environments.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills – you'll be asking questions, gathering insights, and working across teams.
* Ability to identify and articulate safety risks in documentation.
* Familiarity with MS Visio and document management systems.
* A proactive mindset – this isn't a ChatGPT job; it's a real-world, boots-on-the-ground writing challenge.
* Experience with WHS, Australian Design Rules, and compliance frameworks is highly desirable.
