Primary objective
Maintain the presentation of Alice Springs Desert Park's landscapes and scientific plant collections.
Context statement
The Alice Springs Desert Park is a unique facility showcasing the flora, fauna and Aboriginal culture of central Australia. The
Botany unit aims to accurately represent arid zone ecological habitats.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the development and maintenance of plant and habitat displays within the Alice Springs Desert Park.
2. Undertake activities within approved work programs and adhere to all WHS requirements.
3. Undertake seed collection, propagation, planting and plant maintenance activities.
4. Use and maintain the various types of plant and equipment required.
5. Undertake invasive species control program.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience working in a landscaping, outdoor horticultural or land management environment and/or production nursery.
1. Experience working with horticultural machinery and hand tools or a willingness to learn.
2. A high level of motivation and physical fitness and an ability to work as part of a team, including with staff from other
sections of the Desert Park.
4. Operate within a strong safety culture and adhere to defined Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures
while delivering required services.
5. An ability and willingness to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
6. An NT Driver's licence or the ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent experience in a field of technical work related
to the duties of the vacancy.
2. Ability to work on a variety of field tasks relevant to botanical units.
3. Chemical user and First Aid certificates.
4. A basic knowledge of arid Australian plant species and/or experience working in the horticulture industry in the arid zone
of Australia.
