The Team
Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Programs and Services (SWIPS) is part of Inclusion and Engagement Services, delivering tailored support to enhance inclusion, engagement and access to learning for children, students and communities across the Territory.
Our School Social Workers work as part of a multidisciplinary team made up of allied health and special education professionals who work collaboratively with schools under a Multi-tiered System of Support framework. This proactive, partnership-based approach focuses on building educator capability to better support student wellbeing and maximise educational outcomes.
With a strong focus on Family Inclusive Practice, we partner with schools, families and communities to create inclusive learning environments where every student can thrive.
The Role
As a School Social Worker, you will provide support to schools to improve the wellbeing and safety of students through evidence-based interventions. You'll deliver quality interventions that improve the wellbeing and safety of students through whole school, whole class, group work and individual supports, to address student behaviour, wellbeing and social emotional concerns that may impact educational outcomes.
You will be working under corporate-based conditions with the ability to travel to remote and regional schools. Travel to remote schools may require travel by four-wheel drive vehicle on unsealed roads or light aircraft and include overnight stays in remote communities of up to four days; training will be provided by the Department of Education and Training.
About you
To be successful you will have:
Professional 1 / Professional 2
A tertiary qualification in social work with full eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
Knowledge and skills in providing diverse social emotional and wellbeing services appropriate for individual, group and system level intervention for children and young people with disabilities and additional needs
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within defined parameters to provide support to schools on child and adolescent wellbeing and safety issues impacting educational outcomes
Ability to facilitate and provide professional learning, training and information to educators and leadership teams in collaboration with team members
Knowledge of current evidence for critical incident response and recovery
A current Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) from SAFE NT or ability to obtain
Professional 3 (P3)
A tertiary qualification in social work with full eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
Professional leadership in delivery of social emotional and wellbeing services within and across regional teams, including providing effective contribution to senior leadership with operational support
Supervision skills to provide formal supervision and support to less experienced staff, including students on placement
Highly adaptable and flexible, and ability to support colleagues in a rapidly evolving environment
Skills in leading and providing critical incident response and recovery, with the ability to travel at short notice
Strong facilitation skills to present to educators and other staff
Strong ability to work independently with accountability, consistently demonstrating a high level of integrity, a strong work ethic, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities across culturally diverse stakeholder groups
A current Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) from SAFE NT or ability to obtain
