An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Science Technician to join the Science team at Kirwan State High School.

This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.

About The Role

The Science Technician plays a vital role in supporting the school's science department by ensuring the smooth operation of laboratories and resources. This role involves technical and administrative tasks that contribute to effective teaching and learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities Include

- Preparing, distributing, and setting up scientific materials and equipment for practical teaching laboratory use.
- Maintaining a safe and organised environment in science classrooms, storerooms, and laboratories.
- Safely managing chemical hazards and laboratory waste in compliance with departmental guidelines.
- Providing quality advice to science teaching staff on technical components of the curriculum, including STEM initiatives.
- Assisting with field trip preparations, record keeping, and inventory management.

About You

The following traits would be beneficial:

- Experience working in a laboratory or similar technical environment.
- Robust organisational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of chemical handling and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and anticipate needs within a science department.
- Interest in promoting STEM initiatives and engaging students in science pathways.
