We are seeking a Head of Department for a temporary full-time position until 11 December 2026, unless otherwise determined. Centenary Heights State High School delivers a flexible education program to students in Years 10-12. The role of Head of Department is to lead a trauma‑informed program that delivers both the Australian Curriculum and QCAA senior syllabuses to students with a range of learning needs. This role is a rewarding opportunity to shape the lives of some of our most vulnerable students.
About the Role
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Community that is underpinned by trauma‑informed practice, academic standards, industry partnerships, community connections, and social and emotional programs.
* Curriculum leadership aligned to the Australian Curriculum, QCAA senior syllabuses, and VET offerings.
* Coordinate support services, including a Guidance Officer, Wellbeing Worker, School‑Based Youth Health Nurse, Industry Liaison Officer, teachers, and teacher aides.
* Maintain and establish strong community partnerships, including TOMNET, Lions Club Inc., Toowoomba Rotary, Inner Wheel, etc.
* Build and maintain positive relationships and rapport with complex young people and their families.
Highly Desirable Skills and Experience
* Certificate IV TAE to deliver VET programming (or a willingness to become qualified).
* Experience in trauma‑informed practice.
* A strong knowledge of inclusion and diversity.
* Strong communication skills and ability to manage a multitude of relationships both within and outside the school.
* High levels of organisation and ability to work autonomously (you will be line managed by a Deputy Principal from the Centenary Heights main campus).
* Strong financial management skills.
* Ability to coordinate and lead events.
