The Site Safety Manager at Laverton plays a critical leadership role in shaping, driving, and sustaining a strong safety-first culture across all site operations. This position is responsible for ensuring that health and safety is fully integrated into daily decision‐making, operational planning, and long‐term site strategy. Acting as the key safety advisor to site leadership, the role requires a highly visible, hands‐on presence on the production floor, engaging directly with employees, supervisors, and contractors to influence behaviour and reinforce best practices. The Site Safety Manager not only ensures compliance with all relevant legislative and company requirements, but also proactively identifies risks, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and embeds a culture of accountability and ownership for safety at all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
* Actively participate in daily production and management meetings to represent safety priorities, provide updates, and address emerging risks.
* Conduct daily walk‐throughs on the production floor to identify hazards, reinforce safe behaviour, and ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.
* Lead incident reporting and investigation processes, ensuring timely documentation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
* Oversee and manage Dangerous Goods (DG) compliance, including storage, handling, audits, and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate closely with the Engineering team to perform risk assessments, particularly in relation to plant modifications, new equipment, and process changes.
* Support planning and execution of engineering projects, including CAPEX initiatives, ensuring safety is integrated from design through implementation.
* Develop, implement, and maintain an annual safety calendar for the Laverton site, including training programs, audits, campaigns, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Drive a strong, visible safety presence on‐site, balancing strategic planning with hands‐on engagement.
* Maintain and administer risk management systems, ensuring accurate data entry, regular updates, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
* Coordinate and oversee workplace health initiatives and programs, including vaccinations, occupational testing (e.g. noise and hearing assessments), and first aid arrangements.
Prerequisites
* At least 5 years of experience managing Occupational Health & Safety in a fast‐paced work environment.
* Formal qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g., Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety or equivalent) are highly advantageous.
* Degree in Engineering is advantageous but not essential.
* Demonstrated hands‐on experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or high‐risk environment.
* Strong knowledge of risk management, incident investigation, and safety systems.
* Experience managing Dangerous Goods compliance is desirable.
* Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Production and Engineering teams.
* Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) compliance.
* Excellent communication, problem‐solving, and people management skills.
This is a highly hands‐on role requiring regular presence in the Warehouse and on the production floor, active engagement with frontline teams, and a practical approach to managing risk and driving safety improvements.
