The Role
As the Assistant Financial Accountant, you will lead a small team of Accounts Officers to deliver high-quality financial accounting services aligned with legislative requirements and the Office's policies and procedures.
In this role, you will champion the implementation of best-practice processes that support compliance and meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical expertise with a strong focus on service delivery and continuous improvement.
Key accountabilities:
* Support the Financial Accountant and supervise the Accounts Officers to ensure performance in all financial accounting areas.
* Assist in preparing the monthly trial balance.
* Maintain and reconcile Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Fixed Assets and lease accounting systems.
* Prepare the ODPP's GST and FBT returns for approval.
* Assist in the preparation of the audited annual financial statements to meet legislative requirements.
* Develop and implement best practice procedures and deliver training sessions to managers and staff as required.
* Provide day to day SAP assistance and location administration to Finance, HR and Procurement team members, coordinating enhancements and change requests.
* Create new capital projects and settle capital expenditure invoices, manage operational change requests and undertake ad hoc projects as required.
About you
* Demonstrated experience in supervising finance staff.
* Tertiary qualification in accounting, CPA, CA or equivalent.
* Relevant accounting experience including accounts payable, payroll tax, BAS returns and FBT returns.
* Demonstrable working knowledge of generally accepted accounting standards, practices and procedures, including the ability to apply the Public Finance and Audit Act and the Treasurer's Directions.
* Experience in the use of SAP (financials) to facilitate provision of expert support and guidance to ODPP users and perform the role of local system administrator.
* Effective communication skills with the capacity to present financial data, negotiate and organise resources.
