An interest in financial markets is important, but as an entry-level role, no prior financial experience is necessary.Job DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?RBC is growing in Australia and is looking for a junior/entry-level candidate in the Australian Equity Research team based in Sydney or Melbourne. Candidates will be responsible for fundamental analysis of Australian companies operating across the global industrials sectors. An interest in financial markets is important, but as an entry-level role, no prior financial experience is necessary. RBC provides investment research to institutional fund managers in Australia and offshore. Companies covered vary from established, large cap businesses to emerging small cap companies. Associate roles primarily provide research support to Lead Analysts. As you develop, your career pathway includes assuming lead coverage of some companies in your own right within 3-5 years depending on your experience and track record of outperformance in the Associate role.What will you do?Understand and be able to build and update operational and financial models.Understand what covered companies do, how they do it, and the market environment in which they operate.Understand how the company's profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflows interrelate and be able to update historical company financials from available public data sources.Understand how to model business and operational processes in Microsoft Excel to forecast company drivers for future estimates.Understand how to value a company using different methods, e.g. DCF valuation, comparable multiples analysis.Generate high quality research reports and presentations.Build and maintain databases of key industry data points.Support the Lead Analyst promptly to answer institutional investor queries.Inquiring mind to identify risks relating to companies under research coverage, e.g. operational, financial, commodity, political, macro risks, etc.Initiative to find relevant industry contacts to assist in forming a comprehensive view of the company and the operating environment.What do you need to succeed?Must-haveA financially focused Undergraduate degree (i.e. Commerce, Finance, Economics) and/or technically focused Undergraduate degree (i.e. Engineering, Science, Mathematics) at a minimum.Minimum 2 years' full-time work experience an advantage but not necessary.Strong interest in equity markets and finance.Willingness to learn and analyse industry sectors and companies.High attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to separate noise from important industry/company insights.Excellent writing, communications and presentation skills.Strong computer skills across Microsoft Office applications - primarily Excel, Word and PowerPoint.Ability to source data and concisely summarise information from multiple sources, e.g. online databases, government statistics, journals, trade publications etc.Ability to prioritise work and multi-task responsibilities.Ability to work independently and under pressure, in a high-paced environment.High degree of flexibility and willingness to take on challenges.Flexibility to travel when needed.Nice-to-haveWork experience in industrial companies and/or sectors.Financial (CFA, accounting) qualification, or relevant post-graduate qualification.Factset or Bloomberg experience.What's in it for you?We thrive on the challenge to be our best - progressive thinking to keep growing and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper.
