Learn and Grow as an Apprentice Technician at Gregory Poole Equipment Company
We are seeking a highly motivated and mechanically inclined individual to join our team as an apprentice technician. This is a unique opportunity to learn through classes and hands-on training how to perform routine mechanical repairs on construction equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Leverage safety practices in shop operations and utilize various types of shop equipment and tooling. Learn required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for different shop situations.
* Develop understanding of basic business concepts associated with the service department. Complete proper service documentation, including time entry, service reports, part order forms and returns, core tags, and warranty tags.
* Exposure to Caterpillar information systems for diagnostics, troubleshooting, assembly/disassembly process, ordering parts, etc.
* Apply logical troubleshooting procedures using information provided in the Cat network or from external sources. Include computer diagnostics, troubleshooting guides, wiring schematics, and disassembly/assembly guidelines.
* Utilize hand & power tools to remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, & test.
* Perform routine repairs on construction equipment.
* Disassemble/reassemble parts or equipment, drain fluids into containers, clean parts with rags, cleaners, and power washers.
* Climb up onto, under, & into equipment, using hand & power tools to disassemble/reassemble equipment.
* Support other GPEC technicians with larger equipment repairs.
Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Work Experience: Must be mechanically inclined and have good basic knowledge obtained through schooling or work experience.
Physical: Able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs; must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports. Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 112 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
Other: Ability to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders; cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems; exposure to P.C.-based equipment and parts information; capable of learning and understanding technical information, service manuals, and reports.
