Overview
Midwifery Antenatal Postnatal Service Midwife — Location: Horsham, VIC, AU, 3400. Up to 256 hours Permanent Part Time ; Up to 64 hours temporary part time (early career midwife) 12 month position.
MAPS (Midwifery Antenatal Postnatal Service) at Grampians Health Horsham offers a dedicated MAPS midwife to deliver the majority of antenatal care, education, and postnatal home support for up to 10 days after birth. The model operates five days per week, with occasional weekend postnatal home visits. The MAPS midwife does not care for labour/birth and is not on call. Midwives must maintain birth room skills by working a minimum of 0.1 FTE in Yandilla. All women booked to birth at Grampians Health Horsham will be allocated a MAPS midwife. MAPS midwives report to the Maternity Services Manager and collaborate with the administration team, obstetric team and other Grampians Health Horsham staff to deliver high quality, woman-centered care. MAPS midwives will possess excellent clinical and skilled skills and demonstrate the values of Grampians Health.
Key Responsibilities for this role
Antenatal Care
- Conduct initial assessments, including medical, obstetric, and psychosocial history.
- Perform risk assessments, managing and referring as appropriate under GH guidelines.
- Develop and document individualised care plans.
- Monitor maternal and fetal health in line with the GH antenatal schedule.
- Provide education on pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting.
- Promote healthy lifestyle behaviours and run prenatal education sessions.
- Offer emotional support and counselling to address concerns.
Postnatal Care
- Conduct home visits to support maternal recovery and newborn health.
- Provide breastfeeding support, infant care, and parental education.
- Offer contraceptive advice and maternal health checks.
- Refer to multidisciplinary services where required.
Collaboration & Community Engagement
- Work closely with obstetric, medical, nursing, and allied health teams to ensure continuity of care.
- Engage with community resources and support networks.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions and service planning.
Please note: Intrapartum and antenatal emergency care will be provided by Birth Suite Midwives and Obstetric Providers.
Skills & Experience
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Midwife, or Dual Registration as a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife.
- Demonstrated recent experience (within the past five years) in providing comprehensive antenatal and postnatal care.
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence.
- FSEP Level 3 Practitioner status, or actively working towards Level.
- Current AHPRA endorsement for scheduled medicines for Midwives (Endorsed Midwife) or actively working towards endorsement (desirable).

This position is paid in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2024 - 2028. The classification is Registered Midwife Grade 2 (YS2-YS8) which ranges from $42.41 - $52.20 per hour.
