About the Role
This senior role focuses on economic analysis and regulatory strategy for wholesale electricity markets. You'll lead the development of positions on key market reforms—such as transmission access, capacity mechanisms, and system services—across regulatory processes involving the AEMC, AEMO, AER and ACCC.
Working closely with commercial and strategy teams, you'll help the business navigate the evolving regulatory environment by identifying risks and opportunities. You'll be a key voice in consultations, industry forums, and submissions—ensuring market design outcomes are economically sound, investable, and aligned with long-term business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead economic analysis on wholesale energy market reform, access models and capacity signals
* Develop regulatory submissions and impact assessments for market design changes
* Represent the business in stakeholder engagement with regulatory bodies and industry forums
* Provide insight into transmission investment frameworks, congestion management and access reform
* Assess regulatory risks and opportunities for commercial and asset development teams
* Monitor policy and rule change processes affecting the National Electricity Market (NEM)
* Collaborate with internal legal, commercial and trading teams to align strategy with reform outcomes
* Translate complex regulatory issues into clear, actionable business advice
Business Coverage:
* Wholesale electricity market reform and design
* Transmission access, capacity investment and system services
* NEM policy, rules and regulatory frameworks
* Commercial, regulatory and strategic alignment
Candidate Profile:
* Degree qualified in economics, public policy, or a related field (postgraduate highly regarded)
* 5–8 years of experience in market design, regulatory economics or energy policy
* Deep understanding of NEM operations, AEMC and AEMO reform programs
* Skilled in economic modelling, impact evaluation and regulatory submissions
* Confident communicator with experience in policy consultation and advocacy
* Commercial awareness and ability to collaborate across strategy and technical functions
* Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
