About the role We are seeking either a Development Planner or a Senior Development Planner to join the Development Services Department of the City Development Directorate. Both positions are permanent / full-time, based at the Nowra Administration Building on Bridge Road, Nowra. The position hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with access to a flexi day off every 3 weeks. The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position. Duties Development Planner Provide for the protection, promotion and improvement of the natural and built environment and public amenity and safety by:
4. Providing professional advice, education, and guidance
5. Administering and enforcing the Acts and Regulations under various legislation and Council policies
6. Working cooperatively with other Council Groups, the whole community and state agencies to achieve improved land-use management, high quality built and natural environments and public amenity
7. Coordinating, managing, assessing, and processing development applications which range up to and contain elements of high complexity and value in order to ensure achievement of the objectives of the Community Strategic Plan and customer service levels that will ensure the wellbeing of the whole community.
Senior Development Planner To manage, assess and process development assessments which range up to and contain elements of high complexity and value.
8. Provide for the protection, promotion, and improvement of the natural and built environment, and public amenity and safety in order to achieve the objectives of Council’s Community Strategic Plan.
9. Support and manage the day to day operations of staff and assets.
10. Ensure processes and protocols are in place for compliance with all relevant legislation and Council policies and ensure that risks are managed.
Skills & Experience To be successful in the position, you will be required to possess for: Development Planner
11. Completion or near completion of recognised tertiary qualifications in a field such as Urban and Regional or Town Planning (or related tertiary qualifications), providing eligibility for corporate membership of the Planning Institute of Australia
12. Knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning legislation and ability to interpret legislation such as the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979
13. NSW WorkCover Construction Induction Certificate (White card)
14. Up to four (4) years’ experience in local government in the operation and management of the development assessment and control processes.
15. Current Class C Drivers’ Licence
Senior Development Planner
16. Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, or Urban and Regional Planning or appropriate relevant discipline
17. Extensive experience in the Local Government environment in the development assessment process / statutory planning process, including the preparation of development applications.
18. Be eligible for membership to the Planning Institute of Australia.
19. Hold or be eligible to acquire an NSW WorkCover Construction Induction card.
20. Current Class C Driver’s Licence
Remuneration Development Planner This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 8, 9, 10 or 11. Grade 8 – $71,574.36 to $80,451.80 p.a. plus 11% Super Grade 9 – $77,416.04 to $90,120.68 p.a. plus 11% Super Grade 10 – $85,501.52 to $98,211.88 p.a. plus 11% Super Grade 11 – $93,592.72 to $106,297.36 p.a. plus 11% Super Senior Development Planner Grade 12 – $99,364.72 to $113,228.44 p.a. plus 11% Super Senior position includes leaseback vehicle.
