Ao6 senior communications officer

Sunshine Coast
Randstad Australia
Posted: 10 March
Offer description

Randstad is partnering with a prominent Queensland State Government Department in the North Coast Region to find a creative and strategic Senior Communications Officer.

If you are a "communications traffic controller" who can turn technical project jargon into clear, relatable stories for the community, this is your on-ramp to an extraordinary career move.

The Offer

* Pay Rate: $79.18 – $84.55 per hour + Super (AO6 equivalent).
* Location: North Coast / Sunshine Coast Region.
* Contract: Initial contract with potential for extension.

About The Role

As the Senior Communications Officer, you will lead initiatives that drive community confidence and connect the public to major infrastructure progress. You will work at the crossroads of creativity and strategy, ensuring that residents and commuters are not just informed, but engaged.

Your Key Responsibilities

* Strategic Planning: Drive the development and management of communication plans for major projects across the Sunshine Coast.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Build enduring relationships with project delivery teams, contractors, and local community groups.
* Content Creation: Produce innovative materials—including media releases, newsletters, and social media content that translate complex engineering into plain English.
* Expert Advice: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing best-practice guidance on engagement strategies.
* Risk Mitigation: Identify potential communication "roadblocks" before they arise and develop proactive detours to keep information flowing smoothly.

Key Selection Criteria

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring

* Sector Experience: Previous experience in communications or public relations, ideally within government or large‐scale infrastructure.
* Exceptional Writing: A mastery of the written word—you know how to craft a narrative that resonates with a diverse audience.
* Relationship Management: Proven ability to engage communities and manage sensitive messaging in high‐profile environments.
* Strategic Thinking: A proactive, solutions‐focused mindset with the ability to balance community value with organizational priorities.
* Technical Literacy: An understanding of transport or infrastructure (a major bonus!).

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is highly desirable. IAP2 Certification will be looked upon very favourably.

How to Apply

If you're ready to help shape the future of the North Coast's transport network we want to hear from you!

At Randstad, we are passionate about providing equal employment opportunities and embracing diversity to the benefit of all. We actively encourage applications from any background.
