We are offering an exciting opportunity for graduates to join our newly established Trainee Clinical Coder Program, designed to provide structured, hands-on training, mentoring, and ongoing professional support from experienced coding professionals. This program offers a clear career pathway, combining practical learning, structured education, and one-on-one guidance from skilled mentors to ensure you feel supported and confident as you begin your coding career. ABOUT THE ROLE As a Trainee Clinical Coder, you will learn how to assign accurate and timely clinical codes to patient episodes of care through detailed analysis of medical records. You will receive formal training and day-to-day guidance from our Health Information Services (HIS) team across Mater Hospital North Sydney, St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney and Griffith Hospital. This is a full-time development role that provides a pathway to a professional career in clinical coding, working within a supportive and highly skilled national team. Key Responsibilities: Participate in the Trainee Clinical Coder Program, including structured learning modules and mentoring. Learn to apply ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS classifications and national/state coding standards. Develop an understanding of hospital casemix, funding models, and data quality. Contribute to education, audit and performance improvement activities. ABOUT YOU We are seeking motivated recent graduates who are ready to learn and grow in a supportive environment. You will have: A HIMAA Diploma of Clinical Coding or A Bachelor/Master of Health Information Management Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking and an eagerness to learn. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Basic familiarity with medical terminology or coding principles Trainees will need to attend the Mater Hospital North Sydney for training and onboarding.
