Overview:
SLS Federal Services is seeking an experienced SSHO to oversee health and safety compliance for U.S. Department of Defense construction projects at RAAF Base Darwin. The SSHO will ensure strict adherence to EM and Australian WHS regulations for high-risk construction works involving airfield pavement, fuel systems, steel erection, and facility infrastructure construction.
Key Responsibilities:
* Implement and maintain the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) in accordance with EM
* Ensure compliance with Australian WHS Legislation, including NT-specific regulations.
* Conduct site safety audits, toolbox talks, and training.
* Lead investigations of incidents and near misses, and prepare corrective action reports.
* Manage Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and SWMS review.
* Coordinate with NAVFAC representatives, Base Safety Officers, and subcontractors.
* Maintain safety documentation, logs, and inspection reports for audit readiness.
Requirements:
* U.S. citizen or Australian resident with eligibility for base access clearance.
* Minimum 5 years of SSHO or safety management experience on DoD or Defence projects.
* OSHA 30-Hour Construction (or equivalent WHS training for Australia).
* EM hour training.
* Strong knowledge of Australian WHS Act 2011 and associated regulations.
* Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS (for Australian candidates).
