The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) was established in 1995 and is the largest tertiary admissions centre in Australia. Owned by universities in NSW and the ACT, UAC's mission is to provide excellence in admissions services, including the calculation of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
UAC's Information Technology Department manages and develops UAC's technological infrastructure through four teams: Business Analysis/Quality Assurance, IT Operations, Product Engineering, and Projects and Service Management.
About the Role
UAC is looking for an experienced Systems Administrator to join the Systems Unit within our Information Technology Department. This full-time role is based in our Rhodes office and requires on-site attendance five days per week.
The Systems Administrator is responsible for network configuration and administration across a large number of systems in a web-based, multi-user environment where privacy and the confidentiality of data are essential. This involves ensuring operating systems perform in accordance with best practice, system security is maintained, and problems are diagnosed and resolved in a timely manner.
About You
* Strong Linux and SQL experience
* Excellent critical and analytical problem‐solving skills in a systems support environment
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively communicate with users on technical issues.
* Install, upgrade, troubleshoot, and monitor operating systems across virtual environments, servers, PCs, and network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls).
* Configure and maintain servers and workstations, including virtual machines, security updates, performance monitoring, and system tuning.
* Perform daily system quality checks, monitor logs, and generate SQL/SAS reports to ensure service levels are met.
* Administer relational databases and data warehouses, including backup monitoring and data integrity management.
* Provide technical support and training to internal and external users; maintain system documentation.
* Support IT operations and contribute expert input to projects and strategic initiatives.
* Diagnose complex issues and implement system improvements to ensure best practice, high performance, and alignment with business objectives.
* Use of automation tools as much as possible

Remuneration:
The annual salary range is $ 138,170.85 – $160,094.81 pa (includes base salary plus 17% employer superannuation contribution and annual leave loading).
