Remuneration: 68499.5 - Full time equivalent base salary range (excludes super, leave loading and salary packaging)

Hours Per Week: 4 (8 hours every second weekend, 4 hours on a Saturday and 4 hours on a Sunday. Hours of work are 9am -1pm)

About the role

Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is the largest paediatric health care entity in Australia. We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.

We are seeking an allied health assistant to work every second weekend at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy students with an interest in working in NSW Health are strongly encouraged to apply.


What You'll Be Doing

You'll provide essential allied health assistant services under the supervision of an occupational therapist and physiotherapist. You'll work primarily on the orthopaedic ward working with children aged 0-18 years old. You will be supporting the following activities:

* Assist with patient transfers and mobility practice
* Deliver delegated patient‑related therapy activities in line with NSW Health policies
* Facilitate discharge planning by preparing equipment, educating families on safe use and supporting the maintenance of equipment.


When you'll be working

You will work every second weekend, 4 hours on a Saturday and 4 hours on a Sunday. Hours of work are 9am -1pm.

There is another AHA who works the opposite weekend to cover Saturday and Sunday.


About You

We're looking for someone who:

* Experience working with children and families. Experience working with people with disability and/or in a hospital or healthcare environment.
* Understanding WH&S requirements of the role and physical ability to move / transfer clients & equipment safely
* Proven ability to be organised, prioritise a number of competing demands/tasks & manage time effectively & efficiently.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate

* Completion of 12 or more months' service as an Allied Health Assistant Level 1 and/or Certificate III or IV Allied Health Assistant Qualifications or equivalent professional qualifications or working towards qualification
* This position helps discharge people from hospital. Tell us about the skills and experience you have from your previous employment or placements that you would use to help facilitate a patient's discharge?
* What experience have you had with assistive technology (eg wheelchairs, crutches, mobility aides, self care equipment) and manual handling with patients?
* Tell us about how you have used effective communication skills to solve a problem.
