Currently we have 89 students; based on enrolments, 90% have a primary diagnosis of Autism and 60% have complex communication needs. The Role

Meadow Springs ESC is seeking to appoint Education Assistants – Special Needs to current vacancies. As an Education Assistant – Special Needs you will assist in delivering planned education programs, typically managing small groups under the direction of the teacher. You will work in a collaborative environment to support students in and out of the classroom. Experience and qualifications in working with students with Intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, complex communication needs, and challenging behaviour are highly desirable.

The suitable applicants should be friendly, approachable, flexible, and genuinely interested in supporting students with high educational needs. They should be caring, proactive, responsive, able to work collaboratively in a team, and have good written and oral communication skills to implement individual or small group programs. Applicants confident and innovative in using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) are encouraged to apply. A willingness to learn and apply new skills/knowledge is expected.

Each class has a teacher and a team of education assistants who work together to meet the learning needs of students. Education Assistants are expected to reflect on their practice, welcome feedback, and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and community members. Meadow Springs ESC is a Positive Behaviour School; staff are expected to model the three behaviour expectations: being safe, respectful, and trying their best in both classroom and playground settings.
