Your Opportunity

The

Youth Beat

program in Southern Tasmania is a voluntary service dedicated to supporting vulnerable young people, helping them establish strong social networks, address anti-social behaviour, and strengthen connections with family, community, and school. Leveraging a deep understanding of current issues affecting youth, Youth Beat Workers connect and engage with young people, maintaining their motivation and supporting them to make positive changes.

With a dual focus on Mobile Outreach and early intervention case management, this autonomous role involves delivering support for up to 15 young people. In addition to crisis intervention and making supported referrals, Youth Beat Workers provide case management to help young people achieve personal goals and access additional resources. The role requires a confident, self-assured approach, particularly in managing risk and engaging youth in meaningful ways. With strong connections to local support services, Youth Beat empowers Tasmania's youth to navigate and overcome complex challenges.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Work with young people accessing the service to create holistic and strength based individualised case/support plans using SMART goals including referral to supplementary services as needed.
- Respond to referrals to the service from internal and external support services and coordinate case allocations.
- Develop strong professional relationships with young people and or their families, key stakeholders, and staff to contribute to the effective functioning of the service and improved outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with service staff to provide specialised support to address complex cases or emergency situations.
- Balance the desire to support the young people, whilst maintaining a focus on achieving the required performance and contractual outcomes.
- Facilitate mobile outreach engagement and support to vulnerable young people aged 8 to 18 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
- Support targeted to young people who present with multiple support needs and are facing multiple risk challenges.

Requirements for Success

With a significant background in the _child, youth & family,_ homelessness, social work, health, human_ _services_, or other social science disciplines, you will be confident in your case management and assessment processes. Other requirements include:

- A minimum Cert IV qualification in Community Services or equivalent with experience working in the Community/ Youth Service sector.
- Experience and ability to work with at risk young people including knowledge of child and adolescent development and child and youth safe practices.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Exhibit ability to establish and maintain strong community networks.
- Ability to work according to the principles of client-centred practice.
- Capacity to relate to young people from different ages and cultural backgrounds.
- Drive engagement from the young person and their family.
- High level of communication skills with young people, peers, government departments and the community.
- Highly developed time management and organisational skills.
- Experience in supporting at risk young people to achieve positive outcomes in terms of the Tasmanian Youth at Risk framework and the Tasmanian Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy
- Comfortable working autonomously.
- Must have Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
