Expressions of Interest - Audit and Risk Committee Independent Member
About the Role
The City of Boroondara seeks an independent member for its Audit and Risk Committee for a term up to three-years (with an option for one renewal).
Our Audit and Risk Committee comprises three independent members (including the Chair) and two Councillors. It is established under the Local Government Act 2020, with duties specified by that Act and Council's Audit and Risk Committee Charter~
Role requirements~
You will be required to attend quarterly committee meetings scheduled in evenings (March, June, September and December). Meetings are held at Council's Camberwell office - 8 Inglesby Road, Camberwell. Further meetings may be scheduled for urgent matters.
Committee members receive meeting report packs two weekends in advance to familiarise themselves with the agenda. Minutes and other documents like Internal Audit proposals are also reviewed by email outside of meetings. Each meeting cycle is estimated to require about 10 hours work. Payment offered for each meeting is $2,000 (ex GST) negotiable based on experience.
Preferred skill and experience~
The successful candidate will contribute to good governance and operational excellence in the City of Boroondara. They will bring an analytical mind with a collaborative approach to help the Council, the CEO and executive leadership continuously improve. Ideally, they also bring knowledge and experience in~
* Public sector management, preferably in a local government setting.
* Strategic risk management system and procedures.
* Financial management including budgeting, systems and procedures.
* Local government business controls including understanding internal and external audit of those controls.
* Local government legislative and Governance controls including those related to fraud and corruption.
* Information technology systems including business transformations.
* Local government operations such as public asset management strategy.
