About the company Our client is Australia’s leading peer-led youth trauma recovery organisation, dedicated to supporting at-risk youth aged 12-25. Their mission is to empower young people by fostering healing and resilience through shared experiences. They do this by creating safe spaces, where young people with lived experience support each other to heal from trauma, make meaningful peer connections, improve mental wellbeing and overcome life challenges. About the role We are looking for a 0.8 part-time Peer Worker in Bundaberg, whose life experiences living with mental health and trauma challenges, along with your personal recovery journey, assist in mentoring and supporting at-risk young people to improve their health, wellbeing, and connection to community. You will work alongside Team Leader – Social Workers to provide case work, assist young people to access 1:1 individual support, weekend workshops, and weekly support groups. Your responsibilities will include: Share a caseload of 40-young people alongside the Team Leader – Social Worker, providing a place-based model of support Provide 1:1 case work including referral advocacy, supportive coaching/mentoring, and leading Weekly Support Groups, as well as supporting young people being helped through case work to access Weekend Workshops Draw on your experiences of trauma and use your recovery journey to help guide practice and support young people Be aware of and maintain professional business boundaries while building relationships with young people About you As someone with personal lived experience of trauma and mental health struggles, you will apply that experience, along with your recovery journey, to support young people by applying a strength-based and person-centred approach to communicating with them. You will also have: A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team Knowledge of community engagement practices Ability to build relationships while maintaining boundaries A strong understanding of your own self-care measures Demonstrated experience in a similar role Essential Requirements Cert IV or higher in Peer Work, Mental Health, Community Work, Welfare or Intentional Peer Support Working with Children Check WWCC (paid employee) Current National police Record Check Current First Aid A current and valid driver’s license Australian working rights Benefits Fully maintained company car Laptop and Mobile Phone Professional Development Opportunities Access to Salary Packaging to maximise your take home pay Competitive Salary For the opportunity to make a difference, and foster healing and resilience among young people, APPLY NOW!
