About the role
This is a rare opportunity to influence mental health policy at a state level. The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is seeking an experienced and strategic Policy and Advocacy Advisor to support our Queensland Branch.
Reporting to the Manager, Policy (Branches) and working closely with the QLD Branch Chair and Branch Committee, you’ll deliver high-impact policy analysis and strategic advocacy initiatives that position the RANZCP as a leading voice in psychiatry and mental health reform across Queensland.
You’ll be responsible for:
* Developing evidence-based submissions on key mental health policy issues
* Designing and driving advocacy campaigns aligned to Branch priorities
* Providing strategic advice and briefings to the Branch Chair and Committee
* Monitoring legislative and policy developments and coordinating timely responses
* Building strong, effective relationships with government and sector stakeholders
* Facilitating collaborative campaigns with like-minded organisations and NGOs
* Representing the College in high-level forums and government meetings
What you'll bring
* We're looking for a confident and strategic communicator who thrives on building partnerships and making change happen. You’ll also bring:
o Proven experience in policy and advocacy—ideally in mental health, health or social policy
o A demonstrated ability to write high-quality, persuasive policy submissions and briefings
o Strong interpersonal skills and experience engaging senior stakeholders and decision-makers
o The ability to work effectively with committees of clinicians, consumers, and carers
o Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
o A proactive, flexible and collaborative working style
o Relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, political science, health or related fields

* Salary range from $82,896 to $103,646 total remuneration package (TRP) is on offer, inclusive of leave loading and 12% superannuation.
