Overview

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for Western Australia invites applications for consideration for the appointment to the position of Consultant State Prosecutor. State Prosecutors represent the community and public interest by conducting criminal prosecutions under Western Australian law throughout various courts. They are appointed to have overall responsibility for both the preparation and presentation work of prosecution cases as they progress through the criminal court process. Consultant State Prosecutors manage complex and sensitive criminal matters and appear on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions as requested. Under the supervision of Senior Consultant State Prosecutors, they provide advice, guidance, and professional leadership in an assistant role, particularly to more junior State Prosecutors. It is essential that the Consultant State Prosecutor model the ODPP Values and the highest standards of professional and ethical behaviour for ODPP staff at all levels.

The position is offered as an up to Five (5) Year Fixed Term Contract. An attractive remuneration package (including motor vehicle benefits) will be offered to the successful applicant subject to a determination by the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal (SAT).

Responsibilities

* Manage complex and sensitive criminal matters and appear on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions as requested.
* Provide advice, guidance, and professional leadership in an assistant role, particularly to more junior State Prosecutors, under the supervision of Senior Consultant State Prosecutors.
* Ensure preparation and presentation work for prosecution cases as they progress through the criminal court process.

Eligibility and Qualifications

* Australian Citizenship or permanent resident status in Australia is required for permanent appointment. Non-permanent residents are eligible only for fixed term appointments if they possess a valid visa with appropriate working rights for the duration of the fixed term.
* Submit a completed online Application Form with details of two current or recent referees (including a current or recent supervisor).
* Submit a no more than three A4 page document that addresses the Essential Competencies under the work-related requirement.

Recruitment Process

The work-related requirements for the role will be assessed throughout the selection process. A variety of assessment methodologies may be used, including skills assessments, video interviews, aptitude testing, psychological interview(s) and referee checks. Interviews may be undertaken virtually via MS Teams or similar if required.
