About the Role
Intermodal Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nightshift Operations Terminal Manager to join our Operations team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead terminal operations, drive operational excellence, and ensure the safe, efficient, and timely movement of freight within a dynamic logistics environment. The role is based at our North Quay Rail Terminal and will work closely with the Dayshift Terminal Manager and other internal teams and external partners to deliver outstanding service.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will oversee all aspects of nightshift terminal operations, including staff management, shift planning, equipment maintenance, and compliance with safety standards. This position is ideal for a results-driven leader with strong organisational skills and a commitment to continuous improvement in the transport and logistics sector.
This role will operate Monday-Friday 8pm-4am.
Duties/Responsibilities
* Oversee night shift terminal operations, ensuring adherence to established procedures and industry best practices.
* Maintain all equipment in a clean, safe, and operable condition, and escalate issues promptly to relevant suppliers.
* Liaise with Planning and Customer Service teams to ensure operational readiness and alignment with service requirements.
* Monitor and record operational team shifts to ensure compliance with contracted hours and workforce regulations.
* Oversee train loading while prioritising urgent deliveries and verifying the accuracy of train consists.
* Manage staffing and recruitment to ensure all night shifts are adequately planned and fully staffed.
* Conduct regular audits, inspections, and reviews of operational practices and documentation.
* Monitor and report on operational performance metrics and compliance indicators.
* Manage performance and behavioural issues, including underperformance and misconduct, through timely feedback and compliance with company guidelines.
* Ensure all HSE requirements are complied with by employees, contractors, and visitors.
What You Will Bring
* 3-5+ years' experience in a similar role.
* Sound knowledge and experience in transport, rail and terminal operations as well as container handling equipment.
* Excellent leadership skills and the ability to partner internal and external stakeholders to drive business and operational performance.
* Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with an ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
* A high level of computer literacy.
