Senior Community & Customer Engagement Officer (Temporary Opportunity - Up to 11 months)

Join to apply for the Senior Community & Customer Engagement Officer (Temporary Opportunity - Up to 11 months) role at Illawarra Mercury. Organisation/Entity: Transport For NSW. Job category: Projects. Job location: Wollongong, NSW, AU, 2500. Employment type: Fixed Term Full-Time. Salary range: $133,572 - $143,593 per annum plus superannuation. This is a temporary opportunity based in Wollongong/South Coast NSW with hybrid working arrangements.

Responsibilities

- Lead the delivery of the full range of internal and external strategic communication and stakeholder engagement activities for major and state-significant infrastructure projects in the development and construction space.
- Work with a specialist communication and engagement team to lead communications and engagement activities for projects in our patch (on the Princes Highway, south of Nowra), including development of key messaging for community updates, email blasts, webpage content and social media.
- Provide communications advice to project teams to develop stakeholder and engagement plans, strategies, and materials.
- Collaborate to understand project status, timelines, milestones, and how they are communicated to the community and stakeholders.
- Facilitate meetings, coordinate and drive events, workshops, and community consultation activities.
- Provide strategic advice on managing emerging communications and stakeholder issues; work on behalf of stakeholders to resolve significant problems.
- Coordinate media activities and responses to ministerial requests; build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote open communications and best practice engagement initiatives.

About You / Qualifications

- You’re comfortable in a complex government environment with strong experience in communications and engagement, with experience in construction, development, or planning being advantageous.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, liaise with multiple stakeholders, and be process-driven.
- Adaptable, with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for making a positive community impact.
- Skills in communications, engagement, media, or public relations are most relevant; a relevant tertiary qualification is advantageous.
- This role is based in the Wollongong office in the South region; hybrid working is supported, with some time spent in the Wollongong office and at project locations on the NSW South Coast.

Additional Information

Reporting to the Community & Customer Engagement Manager, this is a temporary full-time role available until August 2026.

The role may include some travel to project locations and attendance at sites as required. The salary is USS 9 ($133,572 - $143,593) per annum plus superannuation.
