We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Mixed Crop Farmer to join our team and contribute to our ongoing success and upcoming projects.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mixed Crop Farmer to play a pivotal role in the planning, organisation, control, coordination, and execution of farming operations across our vineyards, where there are currently established table and wine grapes and projections for other commodities to be planted and grown.
This is a hands-on role that requires a deep understanding of viticulture and general crop management, with a focus on maximising yield and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organise, control, coordinate, and perform farming operations for table and wine grape production.
- Select and plant grape varieties, ensuring optimal rootstock and trellis systems.
- Maintain crop production through cultivation, de-budding, pruning, canopy management, and maintaining optimal growing conditions.
- Implement and oversee irrigation schedules and nutrient management programs.
- Direct and oversee general farming activities, including fertilising, pest and disease control, and weed management.
- Operate and maintain a range of farm machinery and equipment, including tractors, sprayers, and harvesting equipment.
- Organise and conduct farming operations such as collecting, storing, grading, and packaging produce.
- Maintain farm buildings, fences, equipment, and water supply systems.
- Maintain and evaluate records of farming activities, monitor market activity, and plan crop preparation and production to meet contract requirements and market demand.
- Manage business capital, including budgeting, taxation, debt, and loan management.
- May select, train, and supervise farm staff and contractors.
- Adhere to all relevant Australian agricultural and occupational health and safety regulations.
Essential Skills & Experience:A qualification of a Bachelor degree or higher, in a highly relevant field of study (e.g., Agricultural Science, Horticulture, Viticulture, Agronomy).
You will need at least three years of employment experience in this field or a related field, which is to be undertaken in the last five years.
This may be reduced to two years if you have an additional Diploma or higher in a relevant field.
You will need to be able to successfully complete a pre-employment medical check as well as a drug and alcohol check.
Desirable Attributes:
- Proven experience specifically with table grape and/or wine grape cultivation as well as other commodities, which RJN can utilise with upcoming projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.
- Current Australian driver's license.
