We're based in Hemmant (Brisbane) and support both scheduled maintenance and emergency call‑outs, with a focus on quality, safety and operational performance.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Fitter to join our mechanical maintenance team. The successful candidate will carry out installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of industrial mechanical equipment and plant machinery, ensuring reliability and uptime for our clients. This includes travel to client sites, shift work and adherence to safety and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out mechanical maintenance, installation and commissioning of plant machinery (pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, hydraulics/pneumatics, general industrial equipment)
* Perform fault‑finding, diagnostics, mechanical alignment, re‑machining, minor fabrication, and assembly/disassembly of components
* Use hoisting, rigging and lifting equipment safely during installations and shutdowns
* Work with other trades (electricians, automation technicians, water treatment specialists) to complete combined maintenance tasks
* Assist in shutdowns, turnarounds and emergency breakdowns—respond with readiness and flexibility
* Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety procedures, site rules, permit‑to‑work systems, lock‑out/tag‑out, and relevant mechanical/plant standards
* Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, report equipment condition, recommend improvements or replacements
* Travel to client sites as required; work may include day‑shift or shift coverage depending on project
* Maintain tools, equipment and calibration records; assist in continuous improvement of plant reliability and maintenance systems
Essential Criteria / Skills
* Trade qualification as Fitter (or Mechanical Fitter/Mechanic)
* Strong proven experience (min x years) in industrial maintenance environments (manufacturing plant, food & beverage, mining, processing)
* Solid mechanical skill‑set: alignment, gearbox repair, belt/pulley systems, hydraulics/pneumatics, lifting & rigging experience
* Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics and maintenance manuals
* Safe rigging & lifting practices, ability to operate cranes, forklifts, mobile plant (or desirable licence)
* Experience working under permit‑to‑work systems and at height/confined spaces if applicable
* Strong commitment to HSE (Health, Safety & Environment), able to lead by example
* Good communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to various customer sites
* Willingness to work flexible hours/shifts and respond to emergency call‑out when required
Desirable / Advantageous
* Knowledge of water treatment plant mechanical equipment (pumps, filtration systems)
* Experience with automation/PLC enabled equipment (collaborating maintenance with automation techs)
* Forklift, crane ticket, rigging ticket, confined spaces, height work certification
* Previous experience in shutdowns/turnarounds
* Familiarity with QLD plant‑maintenance regulations and safe work systems
