About the Position
The Cook plays a vital role in the heart of our operations at Lovely Sweets, specialising in the preparation and cooking of a wide range of authentic Indian sweets (mithai) and related items to maintain the highest standards of freshness, taste, and presentation. This full-time position ensures the consistent delivery of traditional flavours that our customers love, supporting the business's reputation for quality in a fast-paced sweet shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Examine and prepare high-quality ingredients for Indian sweets, ensuring freshness and adherence to traditional recipes.
* Prepare and cook a variety of Indian mithai including barfi, gulab jamun, rasgulla, kaju katli, and other sweets using appropriate techniques such as boiling, frying, simmering, and setting.
* Regulate temperatures of cooking equipment, ovens, and utensils to achieve perfect textures and flavours.
* Season and flavour sweets during preparation, including syrups, garnishes, and traditional spices.
* Portion, plate, and package sweets with attention to presentation and hygiene standards.
* Store ingredients and finished products in temperature-controlled facilities to maintain quality and safety.
* Maintain a clean and organised kitchen workspace, complying with food safety and health regulations.
* Collaborate with the team to meet daily production needs for shop sales and customer orders.
Requirements
* Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
* Relevant qualifications in commercial cookery or equivalent (e.g., Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery or demonstrated equivalent skills in Indian cuisine).
* Minimum 2 years of hands‐on experience in preparing and cooking Indian sweets or similar specialised culinary roles.
* Strong technical skills in Indian mithai preparation, including knowledge of traditional recipes, techniques, and ingredients; ability to work efficiently in a fast‐paced environment; excellent attention to detail for consistency and presentation.
* Good interpersonal and teamwork skills, with a positive attitude and commitment to food safety and quality standards.
