Primary objective
Assist students in achieving successful educational outcomes and high-level attendance through strong communication and working with
families, staff, school community members. This includes liaising, assisting, promoting, and supporting the establishment of sustainable
networks which link families, students, schools, and external organisations to support integrated student and family service delivery. The
position also conducts follow up home visits for students not attending school.
Context statement
Yarralin School is a small to medium sized remote school, located 387km southwest of Katherine. Yarralin School is a P to 10 School and
is classified as a Category 3 remote school. It has an effective enrolment of approximately 100 students and operates across the spectrum
of the Australian Curriculum and Early Years Learning Framework. Key priorities include continuous improvement for students through
approaches including Read Write Inc; Learning Through Doing; strengthened pedagogical practice; clear and coherent curriculum delivery;
solid relationships and the impact of positive learning environments on behavioural and academic outcomes for students through
effective School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work collaboratively and build strong connections with corporate and school staff and other government and non-government
agencies to support students to regularly attend school and engage in education and learning.
2. Provide timely education advice and support to students and their families, including home visits.
3. Promote education activities and key education messages to students and families to ensure the objectives of education services and
the importance of attendance are understood.
4. Connect students and their families with external service providers responding to their needs, including health and allied health service
providers.
5. Contribute to the planning and implementation of school initiatives aiming at improving school attendance and engagement in
education and learning.
6. Undertake a variety of administrative duties associated with the primary objective of the position.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to bring people together and foster positive relationships between
stakeholders.
2. Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience interacting effectively with people
from diverse cultures including students, parents, carers and the community.
3. Proven ability to participate as part of a team in a spirit of positivity, reliability, trust and collaboration, as well as work cooperatively
with senior management, staff members and peers.
4. Knowledge and understanding of school administration systems (or willingness to learn).
5. Understand and demonstrate a commitment to privacy principles and confidentiality of student information.
6. Proven ability to utilise computer programs to produce reports, for correspondence, and to manage information.
Desirable
1. VET or tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.
2. Current NT Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one.
