Position Overview

Blue Sky Community Services is seeking a full‐time Team Leader to join our Families, Young People and Communities Team within the Families Together programme, commencing 1 July 2026. The role will service the Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Bellingen, Coffs Harbour and Nambucca Heads Local Government Areas (LGAs) and will be based at Blue Sky's Coffs Harbour office. This fixed‐term position, until 30 June 2031, is under the SCHADS Award Level 5.1 $51.00 – Level 5.3 $53.31 per hour. It requires willingness to travel within the region and participation in a 24/7 on‐call phone roster, with on‐call allowances paid in accordance with the SCHADS Award. Successful candidates will be required to work flexibly between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm on weekdays to respond to families' needs.

Team Leader Responsibilities

* Lead delivery of the Families Together programme, ensuring high‐quality, safe, and effective services that keep children safely at home and prevent entry into Out of Home Care.
* Provide leadership, supervision, and practice guidance to a team of Family Practitioners and Family Support Workers, promoting trauma‐informed, strengths‐based, and family‐centred practice.
* Oversee team performance and service delivery, including case allocation, workload management, documentation quality, and achievement of KPIs and programme outcomes.
* Support and guide staff in complex and high‐risk cases such as child protection concerns, domestic and family violence, alcohol and other drug use, and crises.
* Ensure compliance with programme, legislative, and organisational requirements, including mandatory reporting, risk management, documentation, and funding obligations.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including DCJ, Police, health services, schools, and community organisations, to support coordinated responses for families.
* Promote culturally safe, inclusive, and child‐focused practice across the team, supporting staff to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and families from diverse backgrounds.
* Drive service quality and continuous improvement, contributing to evaluation, audits, service reviews and the development of programme resources and practice improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

* Relevant tertiary qualification in social work, psychology or a related discipline.
* Demonstrated experience leading child and family service teams and delivering trauma‐informed, family‐centred practice to vulnerable children and families.
* Demonstrated ability to lead, support, and quality‐assure practice within Family Preservation programmes, with strong working knowledge of NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) systems and requirements.
* Capability and willingness to confidently lead, promote, and embed the Families Together programme across both direct practice and team oversight.
* Ability to model and uphold behaviours, attitudes, and professional conduct aligned with the organisation's values, culture, and Code of Conduct, and to support team members to meet these expectations.
* Strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, fostering service excellence and positive engagement with children, families and stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to quickly learn, adapt to and confidently use ICT systems, including the Microsoft suite, client management systems and databases, while supporting compliance with documentation and reporting requirements.
* Highly developed organisational skills, friendly and positive can‐do approach, and willingness to travel within the local area to support families and provide leadership presence in practice settings.

About the Families, Young People and Communities Team

The team works with young people (aged 8 to 24) and their families to ensure young people are safe, connected and parents are supported to strengthen family relationships. The team delivers a wide range of support options for individuals, groups and families and works with local communities and other sector services by delivering training to family and community services across the Mid North Coast.
