About us

The Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) offers medical clinicians the opportunity to thrive in a dynamic, highly supportive regional health network. With more than 5,000 dedicated staff working across 33 public hospitals - including two major Base Hospitals, eight Acute Community Hospitals, and 16 Multi‐Purpose Services - MLHD is a progressive organisation known for innovation, compassion, and excellence in patient care.

Serving a diverse population of approximately 245,000 people across 125,561 square kilometres, MLHD provides clinicians with unparalleled scope to expand their clinical practice, manage a wide variety of presentations, and make meaningful impacts in both small rural communities and larger regional centres. Stretching from the Snowy Mountains in the east to the plains of Hillston in the northwest - and along the Victorian border - MLHD offers not only remarkable clinical breadth, but also the lifestyle benefits of working in one of Australia's most scenic and welcoming regions.

What you'll be doing

As a General Practice VMO within the Integrated Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) Service, you will provide contemporary, evidence-based medical care to people experiencing complex substance use and co‐occurring physical health conditions.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Addiction Medicine Specialists, nurses and allied health professionals, you will:

· Deliver general medical consultations (face‐to‐face and telehealth), including assessment, diagnosis and ongoing management

· Develop and review investigation and treatment plans aligned with patients' long‐term health goals

· Prescribe and review medications and support integrated AOD treatment plans

· Provide longitudinal care for patients with complex needs and support transition to community general practice where appropriate

· Work collaboratively with internal MLHD services and external providers to ensure continuity of care

· Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, education and service development activities

Care is delivered within a trauma‐informed, person‐centred framework that prioritises dignity, safety and equity for people who may experience barriers accessing traditional models of care.

In accepting this position, you will uphold core NSW public sector values, including cultural diversity, equity, ethical practice, and contributing to a healthy, safe, and fair workplace.

Where you'll be working

The MLHD Integrated AOD Service provides specialist, district‐wide care for people experiencing alcohol and other drug-related harm. Services are delivered across multiple MLHD sites and local communities, allowing clinicians to work close to home while contributing to a coordinated regional service.

This role offers flexibility, strong collegial support, and the opportunity to practise meaningful medicine within a collaborative and well-established integrated care model—while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of regional New South Wales, including affordable living, short commutes, and access to vibrant local communities and natural environments.

Incentives

MLHD provides remuneration consistent with NSW Health statewide awards and determinations. Clinicians may also benefit from regional incentives, salary packaging opportunities, and flexible working arrangements designed to attract high quality medical practitioners to rural practice.

The Welcome Experience
