Expression of Interest – Nomination Committee Members McArthur River Benefits Ltd
Gudanji Yanyuwa Garrwa Marra Aboriginal Corporation (GYGMAC) invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals for appointment to a Nomination Committee responsible for the appointment and removal of Directors of McArthur River Benefits Ltd, which acts as trustee for funds derived from various agreements and held in separate charitable and direct benefits trusts (Trusts).
The Trusts are established to benefit the Gudanji, Yanyuwa, Garrwa and Marra People of the Borroloola region of the Northern Territory. The Nomination Committee plays a critical governance role in ensuring that the Board of the trustee company is appropriately constituted, effective, and accountable to the purposes of the Trusts.
Committee Composition
* One independent lawyer
* One independent accountant (CPA or equivalent) or trusts experienced person
* One independent reputable Aboriginal, business or community person
Responsibilities
* Assess the skills, experience, and suitability of prospective Directors
* Appoint and remove Directors to the trustee company
* Oversee processes for the removal and replacement of Directors, where required
* Support transparent, fair, and culturally appropriate decision‐making in Board composition
Required Skills and Experience
* Corporate governance and board processes
* Director selection, performance, and evaluation
* Financial literacy and fiduciary oversight
* Trust management and compliance
* Knowledge of native title, agreement-making, or benefits management
An understanding of, and commitment to, Aboriginal cultural values, decision‐making processes, and community governance is essential. Applicants are encouraged to outline any connection or experience working with the Borroloola region or Northern Territory Aboriginal communities, including the Gudanji, Yanyuwa, Garrwa and Marra People.
The position is a paid casual appointment, with meetings convened on an as‐needed basis.
