Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Melbourne, Australia – West. Full‑time, on site.
We are a fast‑growing, Australian‑owned company that provides world‑class automation solutions and services to the manufacturing industry. This crucial, high‑impact role involves designing and delivering safe, efficient, and reliable automation and robotic handling systems from conception to manufacturing and field support.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the mechanical design process, ensuring technical integrity and compliance.
* Design mechanical product elements, including machined and fabricated components.
* Conduct engineering calculations to support product designs.
* Utilise 3D modelling, simulation, and 2D drafting tools.
* Lead and manage New Product Development (NPD) projects.
* Ensure designs comply with local and international standards.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary projects, providing essential technical insights.
* Communicate design requirements effectively with suppliers.
* Implement best practice design, documentation, verification, and manufacturing methods.
* Provide support for existing products and assist with engineering investigations.
* Attend occasional site visits as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field or relevant industry experience).
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design engineering.
* Proven experience in designing plant equipment & machinery – essential.
* Expertise in 3D modelling software (Inventor or SolidWorks preferred).
* Experience with manufacturing methods: machining, laser cutting, fabrication/welding, assembly.
* Experience in designing automation and robotic equipment (desired).
