Primary objective

Drive tourism industry and product development support activity across a range of targeted growth and high yield sectors,

including cruise, domestic education and military tourism.

Context statement

Tourism and Events NT's role is to market the Northern Territory as a desirable destination to drive visitor numbers and

sustainable economic growth. Within the Industry Development team, the sector development area's primary role is to drive

product development and sustainable growth in identified priority sectors.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Support the development of priority sector tourism in the NT, including cruise, military and education tourism.

2. Provide strategic advice on key issues around capacity building and visitor experience.

3. Report on opportunities and industry issues.

4. Provide secretariat support to the Cruise Tourism Working Group and Military Heritage Tourism Advisory Committee.

5. Implement key outcomes of the Visitor Economy Strategy 2032 related to sector development and facilitate consultation

with key stakeholder groups to develop and deliver on action plans.

6. Maintain a high level of collaboration with industry stakeholders including Regional Tourism Organisations.

7. Deliver the Save and Learn program and support the NT Learning Adventures program.

8. Work collaboratively across the Department of Tourism and Hospitality and wider government to influence positive results

for priority sectors.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Understanding of the Northern Territory tourism industry, its products, attractions and regions.

2. Understanding of the Northern Territory tourism environment and its competitive development position in the domestic and

international tourism arena.

3. Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work independently as well as part of

a team.

1. Well-developed written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and negotiation skills.

2. Demonstrated ability to build rapport with stakeholders.

3. Demonstrated ability to use information in a commercial, creative and informative way to realise opportunities.

4. Practical knowledge of tourism trends and planning/tourism best practices.

Desirable

1. An understanding of government agency processes.

2. Tertiary qualification in a related field.

Further information

At times this position requires travel to remote areas and work outside of standard working hours.
