About the role
As our business grows and new product development projects pick up momentum, we're expanding our R&D team to bring in the skills and creative capacity needed to support our exciting pipeline.
We're seeking a friendly, organised, and proactive R&D Chemist for a hands-on 3-month contract, with the potential to extend or transition into a permanent role for the right candidate. You'll report directly to our Head of R&D and work onsite in our dynamic manufacturing facility.
Previous cosmetic formulation/beauty industry experience is absolutely mandatory for this role. Experience gained overseas is completely fine — as long as it's SkinCare & HairCare cosmetics R&D experience.
What you'll be doing
* Continuously monitor and identify innovative concepts and market trends relevant to the industry.
* Collaborate with the Sales and Marketing Team to provide insights on market trends and innovations that can be leveraged for product development.
* Development of new products and improvements to existing products, managing the entire process from conceptualisation to full-scale production.
* Prepare laboratory-scale batches for formulation, customer samples, and various tests. Oversee scale-up and pilot batches, making recommendations for efficiency improvements and cost savings.
* Conduct analytical tests on manufactured bulk materials, finished products, stability samples, and other necessary testing.
* Assess cosmetic packaging for quality, functionality, and stability to ensure product integrity.
* Manage regulatory paperwork and maintain raw material information, maintaining an organised filing system for Certificates of Analysis (COAs), technical, and regulatory documentation.
* Ensure the quality control of laboratory raw material samples by maintaining organised sample storage and COA documents.
* Adhere to company procedures and policies, follow current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and uphold safety regulations in both laboratory and manufacturing areas.
What we're looking for
* Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
* Minimum 3+ years experience in an R&D Chemist or Formulation Chemist role — cosmetics industry experience is essential
* Proven track record of designing and conducting successful laboratory experiments
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
* Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of documentation and record-keeping
* Familiarity with industry-standard laboratory equipment and analytical techniques
