About the role
The Student 360 (S360) Program is a key component of the University’s digital transformation strategy and will establish a digital platform based on Salesforce Education Cloud for student support and administration. The Program will improve our students’ experiences by providing more streamlined and personalised service delivery, integrating data from multiple systems, and facilitating faster and easier resolution of service requests.
S360 will leverage the foundational capability of Salesforce Education Cloud, MuleSoft and AWS Connect. Future projects within the Student 360 Program are also planned beyond 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to our university's digital transformation journey.
Our Student 360 Program is seeking a Senior Environment and Release Manager to join a dynamic and complex digital transformation for an initial Fixed Term full time opportunity. This role requires a deep understanding of both business processes and technical systems.
In this role, you will report to the Senior Project Manager - Technology, and you will play a critical part in setting up and managing the various IT environments required for use by multiple projects within a complex IT Program, ensuring they are stable, secure, and aligned with Program requirements.
This role requires a deep understanding of IT environment management at every stage of project delivery. It is responsible for the strategic management and oversight of S360 Program IT environments, including development, testing, staging, production, and training environments. The role ensures that these environments are properly configured, maintained, and optimised to support the Program’s processes effectively.
Key Duties:
- Oversee the set-up, configuration and maintenance of IT environments, including development, testing, staging, production, and training.
- Implement and enforce environment standards and configurations to ensure consistency, reliability and alignment to project requirements.
- Monitor and optimise environment usage to ensure efficient allocation.
- Develop and implement strategies for environment management to support project needs.
- Plan for environment provisioning, capacity management and lifecycle management in accordance with Program planning.
- Monitor and optimise environment performance to ensure high availability, reliability and efficiency.
- Implement and maintain environment monitoring tools and practices.
- Collaborate with development, testing, and operations teams to plan and schedule application and platform releases across various environments.
- Coordinate with IT operations teams ensuring release schedules are aligned with project timelines and business objectives.
- Coordinate release activities, including change approvals, deployment planning, and roll-back strategies.
- Develop and maintain automated deployment processes to streamline releases.
- Ensure IT environments are secure and comply with the University policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that detailed release documentation, including release notes, configuration changes, and version control are documented and maintained.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration between development, testing, training, infrastructure and operations teams during the release process.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and trends in setting management and release automation.
- Provide guidance and support to project team members and other stakeholders on environment-related issues and best practices.
Please note that this is a fixed term contract ending 31 December 2026 based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde.
About you :
You are an experienced Senior Environment and Release Manager including:
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, and/or substantial experience in the role.
- 5 years’ experience in setting management, release management, configuration management within an IT or software development environment.
- Strong knowledge of release management methodologies and best practices.
- Proficiency in version control systems and release automation tools.
- Experience with application deployment on cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with Agile and DevOps principles.
- Experience working within a complex, Enterprise environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining accuracy and consistency in the release process.
