Overview
Head of Property Development at Metcash.
Lead the design and execution of a national property strategy that supports the sustainable growth of the Food division.
Translate business objectives into a forward-thinking network development plan covering new sites, refurbishments, relocations, and competitive defence.
Partner with senior leaders across Property, Finance, and Operations to ensure alignment with customer demand, brand strategy, and future market opportunities.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of a national property and network strategy aligned to the Food Pillar's commercial objectives.
Own and evolve the 3–5 year network plan including store openings, closures, relocations, and refurbishments.
Use demographic, geospatial, and competitor data to identify growth opportunities and inform property decisions.
Oversee the performance of the existing portfolio, identifying optimisation opportunities and market risks.
Set and uphold clear investment criteria, site selection governance, and capital evaluation standards.
Lead the competitor defence strategy through land banking, site intelligence, and lease management.
Collaborate with internal partners (Store Development, Group Property, State Operations) to ensure pipeline readiness and project execution.
Represent the Food division in enterprise-wide network and strategy forums.
Deliver insights, forecasts, and scenario models that influence executive-level decisions.
Maintain a national view of property activity and risk across the entire development lifecycle.
Qualifications
You have 10+ years' experience in property development, network planning, or retail expansion.
You bring a deep understanding of customer-driven retail property strategy.
You can translate business strategy into network plans grounded in analytics and commercial acumen.
You're skilled in geospatial analysis, forecasting, and scenario planning tools.
You've led high-performing teams across regions and functions.
You're commercially minded, with a strong grasp of property economics, ROI metrics, and capital efficiency.
You're highly collaborative, influencing senior stakeholders with clarity and data-led storytelling.
You have tertiary qualifications in Property, Commerce, Strategy, or a related discipline.
Experience in partner-led or franchise environments is a plus.
