Executive Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and Vice-President (Health)

Monash University invites applications for the position of Executive Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and Vice-President (Health).

As one of Monash University's most significant leadership appointments, this position offers a rare opportunity to lead the University's largest faculty and shape the future of healthcare education, research and impact at scale.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice-President, the Executive Dean leads a Faculty of considerable scale and complexity, providing inspiring leadership to advance educational excellence and elevate global research performance. The role plays a pivotal part in strengthening Monash's positioning and global leadership in innovation, translation and impact. As a member of the Vice-Chancellor's Executive Committee, it contributes to shaping the broader strategic trajectory of the University.

A key focus of the position is championing international expansion, embracing emerging frontiers and identifying strategic opportunities through commercialisation, philanthropy and large-scale engagement with the biotechnology and venture capital sectors.

The Person

Applicants must possess a sustained, high‐impact leadership record across large, complex faculties or portfolios within world‐class, research‐intensive universities, and a reputation for excellence in research, teaching and academic governance.

They should be collaborative and collegiate, excelling at building trusted, impactful partnerships across government, industry, alumni, philanthropic and business communities, and navigating complex environments—including clinical settings—with confidence.

Exceptional communication and influencing skills are required, alongside strategic and operational acumen, and the ability to steward large budgets, attract significant funding, diversify revenue and secure long‐term sustainability.

Applicants should bring sophisticated insight into the global education, clinical and research landscape, supported by influential networks across leading universities, health systems and research institutes worldwide, and advance the Faculty's strategic direction while contributing to whole‐of‐university priorities.
