Overview
Cougar Group
is a market-leading OEM manufacturer, hire fleet specialist, and aftermarket service provider for the underground coal mining industry in NSW and QLD. We design, engineer, manufacture, and assemble a diverse range of underground coal diesel equipment, including Personnel Transporters, Graders, Underground Dozers, and Longwall Chock Carriers. With a hire fleet of more than 80 pieces of equipment—including transporters, LHDs, and longwall move equipment—and OEM orders at full capacity, we are expanding our workshop team to support our ongoing commitment to customer service.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a
Mechanical Tradesperson
with experience in, or a willingness to learn, underground flameproof diesel equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Repair and overhaul hire fleet and customer assets, including underground loaders, personnel transporters, and graders.
Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical issues on OEM, non-OEM, and hire fleet equipment.
Provide technical support on OEM machinery in the workshop.
Complete documentation including shift reports, safety tools, failure analysis, and non-conformance reports.
Collaborate with key stakeholders across the business to ensure effective communication and provide improvement recommendations.

What We're Looking For
Experience in underground coal mining and diesel equipment (preferred, but not essential).
Strong knowledge of fluid power principles and ability to read schematics.
Proven troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
High-level commitment to safety.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
RIISS00030 Explosion Protected Diesel Engine Systems Maintenance Skill Set (preferred, not essential).
