THE ROLE
Due to the recent growth of our Construction Department, we require an Estimator with 5+ years estimating experience within the commercial sector to join our team. Your primary responsibility will be to identify suitable tenders & compile accurate & competitive tender submissions, typically between the value of $100,000 - $7 million.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Identify & select suitable tender opportunities in line with our Construction department strategic objective.
* Prepare, check & review subcontractor packages & scopes of work.
* Liaise, procure & negotiate with sub-contractors & suppliers.
* Communicate with subcontractors, suppliers & internal trade supervisors to obtain project specific quotes.
* Review & analyze tender request documentation, to understand the tender scope of work & contract specific requirements.
* Identify & present areas of risk to AE Hoskins through tender review processes.
* Assist our Construction Operations Manager with departmental planning to increase the efficiency & productivity of the department.
* Read, understand & interpret construction plans, schedules & specifications.
* Review & analyze subcontractor quotes to ensure compliance with tender documentation & develop competitive tender pricing.
* Complete take-offs to calculate material quantities.
* Develop & detail project specific construction methodologies.
* Assist with compiling qualitative criteria requirements for tender submissions.
* Prepare, review & submit competitive quotations and tender offers.
* Innovate, through the introduction of new ideas & alternative methodologies.
* Meet with established & potential clients & attend site briefings, to gain an understanding of job requirements.
* Provide accurate monthly tender performance reports.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
* 5+ years experience in Building or Construction estimating.
* Strong understanding of commercial construction processes / detailed knowledge of building techniques & project sequencing.
* Highly organised with a methodical approach to work.
* Ability to read/interpret construction plans, specification documentation & finishes schedules.
* Project planning skills and knowledge of planning/project management tools.
* Previous experience/familiarity with estimating & take-off software, such as Plan Swift.
* Ability to use automated estimating systems such as Estimate One.
* Competent in the use of Microsoft programs; Excel, Word, One Drive, Project.
* Ability to work both autonomously & in a collaborative team environment.
* Disciplined / methodical approach to work.
* Solid negotiating skills.
* Exceptional time management & ability to reach deadlines.
* The ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, with a solid focus on maintaining positive relationships.
