Position Overview:
The Teacher Aide provides essential support to teachers in the classroom, assisting with both educational and administrative tasks. This role helps to ensure that students, particularly those who require additional assistance, receive the support they need to engage in learning. The Teacher Aide works closely with teachers to create a positive learning environment, providing individual or group support and helping to manage classroom activities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Classroom Support:
o Assist the teacher in preparing learning materials and resources for lessons.
o Provide one‐on‐one or small group support to students who need extra assistance, including those with special needs or learning difficulties.
o Help maintain a productive learning environment by supporting students with their classwork, projects, and activities.
* Student Assistance:
o Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, and on school excursions, ensuring their safety and well‐being.
o Assist students with their learning and development by reinforcing lessons and helping with comprehension.
o Provide support for students with physical disabilities or learning challenges, ensuring their participation in classroom activities.
* Behavioral Support:
o Assist in managing student behavior by reinforcing positive behavior and supporting classroom rules.
o Help maintain a calm and orderly classroom environment, encouraging students to stay on task and focus on their work.
* Administrative Assistance:
o Help teachers with administrative duties such as photocopying, filing, preparing lesson plans, and organising classroom materials.
o Maintain student records and assist with data entry for assessments, attendance, and other school‐related documentation.
* Inclusive Education Support:
o Work with students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and accommodations.
o Provide support to students with special education needs, assisting with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and collaborating with special education staff.
* Communication:
o Communicate effectively with teachers, school staff, and parents, providing updates on student progress and any concerns that arise.
o Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, promoting an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere.

* Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students, teachers, and parents.
* Patience & Empathy: Ability to work with students who may require additional support, including those with behavioural or learning difficulties.
* Organisational Skills: Ability to manage tasks efficiently, including administrative support and classroom preparation.
* Adaptability: Flexibility to work in different classroom settings and assist with a variety of tasks as needed.
* Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, school staff, and other aides to create a positive learning environment.
* Positive Attitude: Enthusiastic, encouraging, and supportive approach to helping students learn and succeed.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Education: A Certificate III or Certificate IV in Education Support is highly regarded, though not always mandatory.
* Experience:
o Previous experience working with children or in a school setting is desirable.
o Experience working with students with disabilities or additional learning needs is an advantage.
* Certifications:
o A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for New South Wales is required.
o First Aid and CPR certification (optional, but beneficial).
* Physical Requirements: The role may involve standing for extended periods, walking around the classroom, and occasionally assisting students with physical needs.
* Hours: Full‐time or part‐time hours, generally aligned with school hours and terms.
