In this new Director, Software Engineering role (known internally as GM, Software Engineering), you will lead multiple engineering teams and managers to deliver scalable, secure, high‑quality SaaS products. You'll set technical direction, contribute to the platform architecture, elevate execution through modern engineering practices, and develop leaders while partnering closely with Product Management (including design) and Technology teams, as well as the Commercial and Operational Teams to achieve business outcomes. You'll own delivery predictability, reliability, and continuous improvement across your portfolio. This role is a high-impact, high‑visibility opportunity to drive business results.

The ideal candidate will be a data‑driven, experienced people leader with deep expertise in software engineering and platform architecture. They will have a proven ability to engage and inspire large teams to achieve high performance. Additionally, they will play a key role in developing the team, including emerging leaders, by fostering skill growth, enabling success, and building a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

* Facilitate the definition of a clear technical approach aligned to business goals (API first, cloud‑native, event‑driven microservices) and execute it with your teams.
* Partner with CTO, Staff Engineers, architects, and Operations to evolve the general architecture and technical roadmaps (observability, reliability, performance, cost efficiency, developer experience).
* Establish and document guardrails and standards for system design, security, data privacy, and quality.
* Balance short‑term delivery with long‑term platform health.
* Continuously raise the bar on code quality, test strategy (unit/integration/contract/E2E), and SLO‑driven reliability.
* Drive security by design, compliance, and data governance in partnership with Security and Data teams.
* Optimize performance (p95/p99 latency, throughput), scalability, and cloud cost.

People Leadership

* Lead, coach, and grow Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and senior ICs; build a strong leadership bench.
* Develop and lead training initiatives, identifying gaps and implementing solutions, including resources and support, to upskill the team.
* Led transformational change across both the team and business, aligned with business objectives.
* Structure teams for focus and flow (clear missions, ownership boundaries, and interfaces between services and frontends).
* Drive hiring plans, workforce mix, and succession planning; champion inclusion, psychological safety, and a high‑performing culture.
* Set clear expectations, run effective performance and growth cycles, and recognize excellence.

Delivery & Execution

1. Ensure predictable, on‑time delivery using Project Management and Agile practices with outcome‑based planning.
2. Guide teams through the full SDLC with CI/CD, trunk‑based development, automated testing, and continuous zero downtime deployments.
3. Remove organizational and technical blockers; elevate and align cross‑functionally when needed.
4. Evolve change management and release readiness gates appropriately to phases and risks.
* Partner with Product on prioritization, scope slicing, and hypothesis‑driven development.
* Communicate status, risk, and tradeoffs with executives in crisp, data‑driven updates.

Qualifications

* 15+ years of professional software engineering experience in top technology product organizations, including 6+ years in leadership roles (managing managers and/or multiple teams).
* Strong understanding of software design and architecture principles for distributed systems.
* Proven experience scaling event‑driven, API‑first, cloud‑native complex SaaS and microservices platforms on a major cloud provider.
* Expert in both software development methodologies and software engineering best practices.
* Demonstrated success in building and mentoring high‑performing teams; excellent coaching, feedback, and conflict‑resolution skills.
* Deep understanding of Agile delivery, modern SDLC, DevOps culture, and reliability engineering.
* Strong architectural and design skills across distributed systems, data, security, and integration patterns.
* Track record of outcome‑based delivery with clear metrics and executive‑level communication.
* Experience with event streaming, gRPC/REST contracts, and mobile/web product ecosystems.
