CDU’s Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) is working to advance the University’s ability to promote the real-world societal benefits and positive change of research conducted by its Faculty and Institutes, to support its mission of being Australia’s ‘most connected University’. The real-world impact of CDU research is crucial to internal and external reporting requirements, such as worldwide university rankings, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and the University’s upcoming TEQSA review for re-registration as a University entity in 2027.

About the Position
Operating within ORI’s Research Systems, Reporting and Performance team, the Research Impact Officer’s role is to progress the University’s Research Impact Strategic Plan which includes three main aims:

* Developing researcher capability in understanding ways to plan for and track social benefits of their work;
* Improving process and systems for collecting and tracking research impact;
* Articulating and rewarding research impact through the development of simple, clear concise and defensible research impact case studies.

This is a practical role in identifying, developing and facilitating activities to build capacity across the university in planning, tracking, monitoring, evaluating and showcasing CDU’s research engagement and societal impact including helping researchers draft and finalise case studies. With proven abilities in understanding, evidencing and communicating the cultural, economic, technological, environmental and/or health benefits of academic research, the Research Impact Officer will work closely with academic staff in:

* Identifying and drafting research impact case studies from selected Faculty and Institutes, in collaboration with researchers and research teams across the University, across identified Fields of Research
* Finalising research impact case studies for diverse audiences including the general public, industry, potential collaborators, and for reporting purposes to highlight CDU’s research excellence and impact
* Promoting research impact case studies through diverse platforms including reports, social media and CDU and/or ORI’s social media pages.
* Improving ORI’s current research impact related processes and systems to improve the ways researchers can efficiently identify, collect and track research impact across the research portfolio
* Developing innovative ways to engage and reward researchers in maximising research impact
* Raising awareness of the significance of research impact and engagement among researchers and administrative staff by developing and facilitating face to face, online and e-learning capability development workshops, events and opportunities.

About You
To be successful, you will require:

* Postgraduate qualifications or extensive relevant experience conducting research in a consulting or commercial capacity, for government or higher education.
* Relevant experience and/or education/training, involving skills in project planning, stakeholder engagement, training development, and facilitation.
* Demonstrated understanding of research impact principles and current national and international research impact trends.
* Demonstrated experience in writing for a general audience i.e., public relations, marketing, journalism with short timeframes and deadlines.
* Demonstrated experience in developing interactive learning opportunities and outreach services to academic stakeholders and in developing and maintaining internal process.
* Demonstrated experience in developing interactive and online learning opportunities and outreach services to academic stakeholders and in developing and maintaining internal process documentation.
* Demonstrated experience in problem solving and providing an informed judgment that displays initiative, with an ability to independently configure information to meet project requirements and strict deadlines.
* Demonstrated excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills for effective liaison with external stakeholders and with staff at all levels within the University.
* Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, and under limited direction in a corporate environment, including setting and achieving priorities and monitoring workflow in a busy environment with competing demands.
* Demonstrated flexibility and ability to thrive in a changing work environment.
* Commitment to the University’s values.

Desirable Competencies

* Demonstrated knowledge of related University research and research administration functions.
* Demonstrated experience in supporting researchers to plan for and track research impact and/or preparing research impact case studies.
* Experience using Research Information Systems, such as PURE to streamline the impact evidence collection process.
* Demonstrated experience using qualitative research analysis software such as NVIVO.

Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory National Criminal History check.

Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Employee Level 8. The base salary will be in the range of $108,349 – $122,491 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $126,768 - $143,314 per annum inclusive of 17% superannuation.
