Consultant Emergency Medicine | Cross-Border Regional Referral Hospital | South Australia
Overview
The Opportunity
We are working closely with a regional referral health service in South Australia to connect with a Consultant in Emergency Medicine seeking a full-time appointment within a busy Emergency Department. This opportunity offers broad emergency medicine practice across a mixed adult and paediatric caseload, with the scope to contribute across clinical care, supervision, departmental development, and multidisciplinary service delivery. It will suit a FACEM seeking meaningful regional practice within a service that anchors acute care for a large south-eastern catchment and supports cross-border patient flow. Recent recruitment material describes the site as South Australia's largest regional hospital.
The Hospital
This is a substantial regional public hospital within the Limestone Coast Local Health Network, providing a 24/7 Emergency Department and a broad range of acute and specialist services. SA Health confirms the service delivers emergency care around the clock, while local service information highlights surgical, obstetric, paediatric, anaesthetic, and consultant-led acute care capability. Current ACEM accreditation records list the Emergency Department as an Adult/Mixed Non-Major Referral site accredited for 12 months core ED training, with PLB/PER and TS4 approval.
Hospital capability includes:
* Regional referral role within a broad cross-border catchment.
* 24-hour Emergency Department with mixed adult and paediatric emergency care.
* Broad inpatient and acute interface across surgery, obstetrics, paediatrics, anaesthetics, and consultant-led services.
* ACEM accredited for 12 months core ED training, with PLB/PER and TS4 approval on the current register dated 17 March 2026.
* Ongoing infrastructure investment including an Emergency Department Short Stay Unit, mental health sub-acute and rehabilitation capacity, and other service expansion projects.
Why Consider This Role
* Strong regional emergency medicine scope with genuine consultant influence.
* Cross-border catchment supporting breadth of pathology and service importance.
* Established training environment with current ACEM accreditation.
* Infrastructure investment supporting future emergency and acute care capability.
* Substantially comparable pathway supported.
Location
This setting offers the advantages of regional South Australian practice with strong community infrastructure, practical affordability, and easy access to coastline, wine regions, and cross-border connectivity. It will appeal to consultants seeking meaningful emergency medicine work, a sustainable commute, and a full-time lifestyle position outside metropolitan congestion.
