The team
The Commercial & Employment Law team within ASIC's Corporate Legal Services works closely with internal stakeholders to advise on commercial contracts, complex procurement and intellectual property matters, and to manage employment and workplace relations issues and compliance risks under the Fair Work framework.
As a Lawyer, You Will Be Required To
* Provide independent, sound and timely legal advice on commercial contracts, procurement, intellectual property and general commercial matters
* Advise the Commission, executives and operational teams on legal issues relevant to ASIC as an employer, including employment policies and contracts
* Advise on employment law, industrial relations and WHS matters, and respond to related legal and other claims made against ASIC
* Prepare internal reports and briefings on commercial and employment law matters
* Monitor regulatory reforms, legislative changes and emerging trends and advise on their impact
* Mentor and supervise junior team members
* Work professionally, positively and cooperatively across ASIC, modelling the values of Accountability, Professionalism and Teamwork
As an EL1, you are accountable for delivering business outcomes, maintaining personal effectiveness, contributing to team capability and recommending improvements to optimise long‐term performance.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
* Legal qualifications and eligibility to hold an Unrestricted Legal Practising Certificate in an Australian State or Territory
* 4-5 years' post‐admission experience as a lawyer with relevant commercial and/or employment law experience (government, in‐house or private practice)
* Strong legal advice writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues to diverse audiences
* The ability to work independently with limited supervision and take accountability for outcomes
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‐paced environment
* A strong client‐service focus and the ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
Experience in governance and compliance is desirable. Knowledge of the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, financial services legislation and related policies will be highly regarded.
