Senior Finance Officer Position
This position plays a pivotal role in the Corporate and Finance Services Team by providing robust financial support and is accountable to the Director of Corporate and Community.
The Senior Finance Officer is responsible for ensuring efficient control and processing of accounts payable function, including effective and efficient financial administration. In consultation with our external Strategic Financial Advisor, you will contribute to strong financial control and governance of the council financial position.
* Main Responsibilities:
* Developing and maintaining financial systems to ensure seamless operations.
* Planning, directing, and controlling accounting and financial operations to achieve organizational goals.
* Monitoring and reporting on budget performance to inform strategic decisions.
* Initiating and processing journals relative to function to maintain accurate financial records.
* Overseeing the processing of payroll, EFT payments, cheques, Bpay, direct debits, and stop payments to ensure timely payment and minimize errors.
* Overseeing the processing of bank reconciliation of Council's bank accounts to detect and rectify any discrepancies.
* Initiating transfers between Council bank accounts and investment funds to optimize financial resources.
* Administering Fuel Tax credits for Council Fleet to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
* Initiating and reconciling CITB payments and RCTI as required to maintain accurate financial records.
* Leading the grants acquittal process to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.
* Preparing and submitting BAS to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
* Contributing to internal control processes following legislative requirements and Council's Internal Controls Policy and Procedure to maintain a high level of financial integrity.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* A degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
* Proven experience in financial management and administration.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure accurate financial reporting and decision-making.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders.
* Ability to work in a team environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
