Job description:
This position is a residential only position, and sits within the Care and Maintenance Team at Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation (RNO) and is accountable for provision of expert input into management of environmental obligations and objectives. Ensuring timely planning of environmental activities, future rehabilitation and revegetation in support of First Quantum Minerals Australia Nickel (FQMAN) sustainability goals.

Key Accountabilities
To undertake a range of duties associated with the development and implementation of rehabilitation strategies, advocating for optimum environmental outcomes. Including:
* Adherence to business HSE performance standards, policy, procedures and systems;
* Field based supervision activities, including inspections and auditing compliance with HSE performance standards, policy, procedures and systems;
* Contributing to development of business documents, policy, procedures, and standards associated with ground disturbance, environmental compliance, monitoring field works, land rehabilitation, EMS Procedures and safe work instructions;
* Assist in the preparation of environmental submissions, such as Approvals Applications, Environmental Management Plans, Annual Environmental Reports, statutory reporting such as MRF, NPI & NGER
* Assist in the capturing of geospatial footprints, and photograph completed works in compliance of regulatory reporting requirements. Facilitating provision of data to the geospatial database with respect to: ground disturbance, compliance monitoring and land under rehabilitation;
* Assist in general field environment monitoring and management activities, including but not limited to:
* Ensure timely completion of sampling and monitoring requirements (internal and statutory);
* Collate, verify, interpret and report accurate environmental data;
* Facilitate workgroup information sharing and business continuity;
* Assist with fauna monitoring (under license);
* Vegetation monitoring;
* Assist with seed collection (under license).
* Coordinate and implement earthworks to rehabilitate land disturbance associated with the project. Including but not limited to, rehabilitation of fallow farmlands, waste dumps, access roads and drill lines, drill holes, costeans, test pits, sumps, and drill pads;
* Participate in direct rehabilitation activities where required;
* On-board and manage environmental contractors and consultants, including the preparation of Scope of Works, risk assessments and pre-starts;
* Assist operational personnel to fulfil their environmental obligations and functions; and
* Perform any other duties as directed by your supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
* Tertiary qualification in Environmental, Geo-science or similar discipline (required);
* Extensive mining industry experience preferably in a similar role or in a field role associated with civil infrastructure or project (field) environment;
* Highly developed interpersonal skills, with proven ability to supervise field based personnel and build productive working relationships with First Nations working groups;
* Demonstrated understanding of legislative obligations related to the mining industry (EP Act, Prescribed Premise licencing, EPBC Act);
* Demonstrated understanding of mobile plant and equipment operations associated with land clearing and rehabilitation activities;
* Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the use of environmental field equipment and emergency communications equipment;
* Physically capable of undertaking field operations work in a variety of weather conditions, as an inherent requirement of the job, with demonstrated strong commitment to safety;
* Well-developed computer skills, including MS Office and ArcGIS (required);
* Strong analytical and electronic record keeping skills with demonstrated ability to record accurate, high-quality data compliant with statutory reporting requirements;
* Strong conceptual understanding with ability to interpret data and connect evolving concepts;
* Strong time management and organisational skills;
* Sound verbal and written communication skills;
* 4WD Competency – manual; and
* First aid qualification (desirable).
