About the Role

Reporting to the Lead Engineer - Applications, this is a full-time hybrid role for a Software Engineer based in our Newcastle Office.

You'll design and implement scalable high-performance software solutions within an engineering team-based environment. This role is ideal for an experienced software engineer who is seeking a varied role comprised of hands‐on coding, design and technical collaboration within a team but with high degree of autonomy. The Software Engineer will have a critical role in the successful design and delivery of a wide portfolio of internal projects to support BEE on its growth path.

Key Responsibilities

* Design and implement scalable, high-performance software solutions in alignment with project requirements and appropriate standards.
* Optimise existing systems for performance, scalability, and reliability, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
* Actively engage in hands‐on coding and development, ensuring code quality, scalability, and maintainability.
* Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, communicating technical concepts and project updates.
* Dependent upon experience, there may be opportunity to provide technical leadership, and mentoring to junior engineers.

About you

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software/Electrical Engineering or related field with equivalent practical experience.
* 3-5 years of hands‐on experience in software engineering, focusing on scalable system design and development.
* Proficiency in database design and maintenance/administration; SQL coding experience.
* Proven track record of building successful design systems and/or complex user interfaces spanning multiple platforms and integrations.

Core Technical Requirements

* Frontend: Experience with Microsoft Blazor framework. Familiarity with MudBlazor or similar component libraries is highly preferred.
* Database: Solid skills in PostgreSQL and Entity Framework Core.
* Data Handling: Experience with Excel integration libraries (like ClosedXML) is a plus, as the platform handles heavy engineering data.

The following will be favourably considered (but not essential)

* Experience with M365 / Azure integrated environment
* Development experience with Microsoft Power Platform suite (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps)
* Experience with SharePoint maintenance and support, custom development and integration
* Experience with API development, OAuth 2.0 Authentication and secure exchange of data via structured data formats (e.g. JSON, XML)
* Exposure to Engineering Design environments (esp. Electrical and/or Control Systems)
